Pure Mulberry Silk Care
MaraSilk — Silk Scarf Care & Washing Guide
A simple guide to keep your Pure Mulberry Silk Scarf beautifully soft, luminous, and timeless.
A MaraSilk scarf is crafted from 100% pure mulberry silk—a naturally luxurious, protein-based fiber known for its silky smooth texture and elegant drape. With the right care, your scarf will remain beautiful for years and become even more personal with every wear.
The Golden Rule: Gentle Care
Silk doesn’t require harsh cleaning—a gentle touch is all it needs.
1. Hand Wash Only (or Dry Clean)
Silk is naturally delicate. Washing machines can cause snagging, fuzzing, pulled threads, and excessive wrinkling.
If washing at home:
-
Do not wring or twist
-
Do not use a spin cycle
Alternatively, professional dry cleaning is always a safe option.
2. Use Cool Water — Below 68°F / 20°C
Hot water can weaken silk fibers and may lead to yellowing or color fading over time.
Always wash silk in cool water to preserve its shine and color richness.
3. Choose a Silk-Specific Detergent
Avoid alkaline products such as:
-
Laundry powder
-
Bar soap
-
Most all-purpose detergents
These can damage delicate silk fibers and dull their natural sheen. Instead, use a detergent specifically formulated for silk or delicate fabrics.
Pro Tip: Add a few drops of white vinegar to the rinse water to help maintain softness and color.
4. No Soaking, No Scrubbing
Treat silk the way you would treat fine skincare—gently.
Lightly swish and press the scarf in the water rather than rubbing it. Darker colors may release a small amount of dye initially, which is normal. To prevent color transfer, avoid soaking for long periods.
5. Air Dry in the Shade
Avoid direct sunlight and high heat, as they can fade colors and stiffen the silk fibers.
For best results:
-
Lay flat to dry (recommended), or
-
Hang in a cool, well-ventilated area away from sunlight.
6. Iron on Low Heat
If ironing is necessary, use low heat (around 212°F / 100°C).
For best results, place a thin pressing cloth between the iron and the silk to protect the fabric and prevent shine marks.
7. Store with Care
Store your scarf as you would any luxury piece.
-
Fold neatly and place it in a drawer, or
-
Hang it on a smooth hanger
Keep silk away from humidity and direct sunlight, and avoid using mothballs (camphor or naphthalene), which can make silk fibers brittle over time.
Care for Silk Blends (Silk–Wool / Silk–Cashmere)
For scarves made with silk blends, dry cleaning is recommended.
If washing at home:
-
Keep soaking time very short
-
Gently press out water (never wring)
-
Roll the scarf in a soft towel to remove excess moisture
-
Lay flat to dry in the shade
